This blog.

By definition, this blog will never be finished since I am perpetually escapading. So far, 3/4 of China is done (a work in progress...), but now I'm in Mo'orea and will be attempting to finish Mo'orea first since it's only a month, not almost a year. But with super limited internet, this isn't going to be lightning fast (surprise!).

Cheers!

A Western Feast in the Far East

The taste testers.
Madeleine's wonderful host family: Diana, Mark, Helen, Matt, and Eli

The cooks.
The desserts!  Madeleine looks only slightly crazed...

The feast.
Tonight, our menu features....
Rotini and alphabet pasta served with a hearty Italian pasta sauce, sauteed green beans complemented with roasted almonds, "grilled" French bread accented with olive oil*, homemade chocolate-peanut Rice Krispie treats, and orange slices drizzled with warmed chocolate

*one gold star if you can figure out how we grilled the bread

Cheese.  Quite rare here... but still so delicious when found.

The preparation.
About to conquer the kitchen.

Rice Krispie treats in the making.  Words cannot describe how fun that was.  Or how sticky it was.

Cooking three separate things on two burners (when they both even decide to work at least) at the same time. Yes, we were sure to be careful. And yes. That is food all over my shirt.

 The aftermath.
The alphabet literally all over the floor, marshmallows under every appliance or cabinet in the kitchen, bread crumbs coating the counters, pasta sauce splattered on the walls (due to our method of opening the cans...), almond bits scattered all around (due to us trying to smash them), chocolate shavings mixed with spilled olive oil....  And that's before the dirty dishes. (Picture taken even after some clean up...)

The entire preparation process took about 5.5 hours (including shopping for food).  And it was worth every minute of it.  Even the clean up afterward.
