One day, while still at Abaca, I went out for a run in the local village. It was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. Simply just real life. Filipinos laughing with their families and closest friends, right in their homes, comfortable and relaxed in their element. Kids ready for a game of basketball or a silly face. All brimming with joy and curiosity. Bright colors, delicious smells, beautiful smiles, and an excitement for life.
This kid was having the most joyous time running sprints back and forth on his little road.
(Notice all the roosters for cock-fighting, a huge sport there.)
Ideal napping spot?
This guy was very proud of his fish...
...and eagerly held up this pretty one I picked out so I could take a picture...
...but then proceeded to continue to pick up each fish to model them individually to me.... (no offense to the other fish, but I really only cared to see the pretty turquoise one, not every single individual other fish, but I certainly appreciate the enthusiasm...)
So many open-air barber shops, all excited to say hello as I passed by.
Afternoon traffic with tons and tons of these little tuk-tuk things.
Sweet kids eating their mom's banana stew of sorts, which smelled incredible.
(Please take note of the little boy's poise.... this was clearly all the rage as it was copied by the kids all throughout the town, as you will see in subsequent pictures.)
Love their smiles.
Ball games EVERYWHERE.
Bakeries all over the place with SO many different options (and delicious smells, of course).
hahahahhahahha
This was an "intense" game of basketball until they noticed me taking a picture and found that way more amusing.
Seriously, countless barbershops.
Sweet baby, mother, and grandma.
(Notice the mom's preparation for her peace sign...)
That baby... is way too cute.
(and the peace sign is now full-force.)
All the "buses" are very creatively decorated/painted...
Note the hand sign again...
These kids were absolutely THRILLED to have their picture taken, carefully chose their poses, and found great amusement in looking at the pictures.
(Seriously, all the kids were doing that hand sign.)
