This blog.

By definition, this blog will never be finished since I am perpetually escapading. So far, 3/4 of China is done (a work in progress...), but now I'm in Mo'orea and will be attempting to finish Mo'orea first since it's only a month, not almost a year. But with super limited internet, this isn't going to be lightning fast (surprise!).

Cheers!

beautiful Houhai Lake and the hutongs

Madeleine and I did some Beijing Exploration, wandering around Houhai Lake and the surrounding hutongs (alleys with lots of courtyard residences housing multiple families within each).

Madeleine being a tourist with the tourists.

Some delicious mango smoothie drink and our respective reactions of course.

Street yogurt.  It's everywhere.  It can't beat our daily morning yogurts, but we'll take it anyway.

This is how they do bike repairs in China, with a bucket of water there to find the leak in the tube.  Not the most representative bike ever though (most bikes are quite beat up and older looking).

The hutongs.
Our first hutong...

...the door was open so naturally we wandered in and found a bunch of people doing laundry and such.  They gave us a weird look, which is nothing new to us.

Beware.

just chillin in their hutong alley.

Beautiful Madeleine being all artsy with her photos.

Very typical Beijing street scene.  Some dirty water thrown out on the pavement, random chickens roaming freely, and dust/dirt.

Another Chinese worker, hard at work.

 Precious.

The lake.
My view as we sat and journaled/read by the lake.

 Weeping willows everywhere.

One of many "exercise parks" all throughout Beijing, filled with all sorts of colorful "exercise" equipment.

The town.

This photo was not posed at all.  Madeleine finally got her indie music fix.

Yes, this one was truly posed.

A very relaxing place to read the paper?

A refreshing glimpse of color beneath all the smog.
