This blog.

By definition, this blog will never be finished since I am perpetually escapading. So far, 3/4 of China is done (a work in progress...), but now I'm in Mo'orea and will be attempting to finish Mo'orea first since it's only a month, not almost a year. But with super limited internet, this isn't going to be lightning fast (surprise!).

Cheers!

Shanghai: Mixing the old and the new

Exploration of our artsy hotel step 1: light up your fingers on the wall.

Exploration step 2: observe incredible counter-space.

Exploration step 3: create latte-art.

Exploration step 4: don't roll off the modern rocking chairs.
(...there were just a couple more steps to this exploration process, ranging from testing the massage chairs to reading books in the library or watching a movie in a giant egg, etc, etc)

Photographic evidence of Madeleine being a very concentrated and diligent with her schoolwork, regardless of her surroundings.  I believe she was working on AP US History here.  (Unfortunately, this picture doesn't exactly show our view of the Bund... even so, Mad continues to persevere .)

Bund Biking!

So we stopped here to just take a photo of our view (and the flower wall) and to look at the map.
Instead....

....Madeleine became a tourist attraction!  As the more gusty tourists came up to ask Mad for a picture with them, layers and layers (no joke) of the more shy tourists starting taking photos of her... over and over and over.  I wish I had counted how many came by.  Neither of us could stop laughing the quantity of people that came by (much higher concentration than normal).  Apparently, a blonde girl reading a map is QUITE the sight to see, in case you weren't aware.  We will be charging 10 kuai per photo at our next session.

I am surprised they do allow breathing here.
(no stepping??  Floating only please.)

All of the Chinese New Year crazies still going strong.

Yes, you drink this dumpling.  It was huge.  Absolutely incredible.

Just outside Yu Gardens.  A massive amount of people all crammed onto one little bridge to stare at and take pictures of really creepy looking manikins (on the left).  There are some things I will never understand.

Finally inside Yu Gardens, complete with personal space, beauty, and history.
No creepy manikins allowed here.

But there are tons of sneaky ninja gargoyles on the roofs.

Please note the peacock gargoyle.  This picture is in honor of K.I. and her undying love for peacocks.

Love the contrast of the old and the new.
Also, that curvy thing in the foreground is the body of a very, very long dragon (below).

A teeny bit crazed-looking, but still really awesome.

Looking up at the roofs.

I do appreciate that there are steps going into the water though.

Incredible stonework everywhere.

 ....tons of different patterns...

No clue how they made this, but still does not look appealing to sit in.

Outside of a little store looking in.... coolest window ever.
