This blog.

By definition, this blog will never be finished since I am perpetually escapading. So far, 3/4 of China is done (a work in progress...), but now I'm in Mo'orea and will be attempting to finish Mo'orea first since it's only a month, not almost a year. But with super limited internet, this isn't going to be lightning fast (surprise!).

Cheers!

Japan: The Ryokan Experience

Tokyo--> Hakone
 Our first shinkansen (bullet train)! So fast, so smooth, so quiet.

Private cable car bringing us to the ryokan...

 Our ryokan, right along a beautiful little river in a valley...
Basically, a traditional Japanese Inn, complete with the tatami (straw) mats on the floor, paper doors, incredible hospitality, slippers, hot springs, and everything.  We were served a very large and ornate dinner and breakfast each day consisting of many, many different little courses and foods served by our sweet room lady.  No clue what a lot of the foods were, but, regardless, they were quite delectable.  Tons of fresh fish of course.  Lots of attention to detail in the arrangement and tastes of the food... I love it.

 Just a few of the foods we were served, all beautifully arranged... Lots and lots of small dishes.  Yes, the one on the bottom left corner has eyes looking at you.  And yes, we still ate it.

 Some sort of sushi.  Tastes much better than the face Mad is portraying...

Kobe beef and hot pot!
(No, I am not eating raw meat.  That is watermelon.)

 Our sweet room lady.

 For dinner and breakfast, they set up this table and chairs, in the same place where they laid out our futons at night (below).

Goodnight!
